How to Show Love: A Little Goes A Long Way
Showing love doesn’t have to be hard and grand gestures aren’t the only way to do it. In fact, if you follow this one rule, you’ll discover just how easy it can be to express your love for your significant other.
Relationships are never always easy. It is normal to hit some bumps in the road or to even have long stretches where you and your partner have a hard time connecting. Couples who are lucky enough to get along often have probably discovered a little secret early on in their marriage on how to show love to one another. That secret is to express your love and affection in little ways often, NOT sporadically in big ways and only when things seem to be going badly or an apology is in order.
Imagine stopping on the way home from work and picking up your spouse’s favorite dish from their favorite restaurant. He/She may have had a difficult day on the job, the kids were trying his/her patience. Or maybe you’ve both lost your intimacy lately. If you were to walk in the door with his/her favorite dish in your hands, you will have broken the surrounding atmosphere with love and consideration. You both have the opportunity to start fresh with that small yet powerful gesture.
If one of you is going out of town or simply feel like ‘ships passing in the night’ because of kids or commitments at work, you could find a sun catcher, charm or porcelain figure, wrap the trinket in a small gift box and fold a note on top of it that says, “Wish you were here” and place it in his/her travel bag or even in a briefcase or purse. When he or she finds it and knows that you are missing them and thought enough to share that sentiment, it will stir emotions that may not have been awakened in some time.
In order to change tedious or tired routines and inspire intimacy, you might be surprised at how little effort is required. Tape a note on the television that says, “Wouldn’t you rather turn me on?” instead. If he or she is enjoying a good book, remove the bookmark and replace it with a note that says, “I bet you’ll never guess where I’ve hidden your bookmark.”
Remember the small things you used to do when you first got together that would make your heart flutter and put a twinkle in your eye? Do them again! When you go shopping, for a walk or you’re just sitting together watching TV, hold hands, link arms or put your arm around her. Softly whisper “Hey” into his or her ear and gaze lovingly into each other’s eyes. If he or she wants to know what you are doing, simply say that you are amazed at how much you love them.
These simple, small acts can really go far when it comes to showing your spouse how much you love them. They can break the monotony of a relationship or help your spouse to feel appreciated and loved. You can expect to feel the same in return!
